We may all have our own personal version of Memorial Day this weekend as tender Venus in emotional Cancer opposed Pluto last night to stir our heart and retrograde Mercury brings our minds back to stories from the past. We may be painfully aware of the water that has flowed under our bridge and flowed away and need to honor an end of an era, a loss, a tough change, or loneliness– before we can shift gears as Venus squares Uranus later in the week, and celebrate summer’s life.

Not all is gloomy though, the surface energy can be light, witty and chattering, if a bit pointed, the Sun, Mars, and retrograde Mercury run together in verbal Gemini, a sign that encourages us to mind-map instead of outline, to synthesize rather than think sequentially.

This chatting may skim across the surface and give us a little privacy, or it can act as social lubrication and allow us to process stuff that is working on us at a far deeper level. Which we may need, because this weekend’s Venus-Pluto opposition can leave our hearts aching and wondering with emotional self-doubts or longing for missing places and people that once fed us. Or it can just leave us a little moody and depressed, able to empathize with those who are going through so much. Wild weather, earth changes, and end of term have shifted the world around some of us, and Mercury retrograde may have put on hold plans or complicated our life with logistical tangles.

Friday asks us to be serious and catch up with unfinished work, check in with people who have authority over us, and prepare as the Sun opposes Saturn. But the Moon enters Leo in the afternoon and starts that holiday feeling competing with these darker and deeper memories. Sunday the Leo Moon conjunct Jupiter beautifully in the night sky and encourages bounty, generosity, and a full picnic basket. It’s a good weekend to let community refill our wells.

Monday we may feel crosscurrents or be pulled in several directions as the Moon enters Virgo while Venus squares Uranus and Mars squares Neptune. Keep an eye on difficult people or military action in the news, and don’t echo that across the dinner table. There may be an unsettled, nervy quality about the day but most of us can channel this into home improvement projects

Legal matters further this week, it’s a good time to investigate an old crime or mistake and repair old wrongs or uncover a truth that was hidden. But we don’t need to do this at home; avoid the tendency to unproductively excavate the past in relationships or dredge up every time they ever committed the petty crime that’s now driving one nut. Speak up, but stay in the present, and stay very open to the idea that there is two-sided to this story.

Midweek we can feel rather critical as Mercury conjuncts Mars, but may not have the whole picture. So let’s not be too hard on others and ourselves but use this sharp-edged mind to get work done, refine the work already in progress and problem solve. Just keep checking and don’t go off half-cocked based on a misunderstanding. It won’t be pretty, and misunderstandings are way too common under Mercury retrograde. Be extra careful driving as impatience, misinformation, and lack of judgement can cause a pile-up. The week ends on a more emotionally connected, upbeat mood as the sociable Libra Moon trine the Sun.

Friday, May 22: Lingering moods from recent events or last night’s dreams can leave us tender and deep within this morning. Life may seem full of tough choices and strange twists of fate. Midday our efficiency wanders; it takes will power to finish up unfinished business and prepare for a holiday weekend. But that festive Moon picks up towards the end of the workday as the Moon enters extroverted Leo. The need to de-stress and relax can make us all a bit loud and self-centered this evening- friendly and warm, but easily ticked off with anything in our way. And maybe feeling our age. Support one another helpfully, and we all get where we need to go faster.

Saturday, May 23: The harder life has been lately, the more we need a moment to renew. Today is perfect day off, meander, renew by listening to a soul’s wants, and indulge. If work needs to be done, get creative as the Moon conjuncts Jupiter. It’s a tough day to try and stay efficient or travel quickly; keep the schedule loose, expansive, and with room for serendipity. Let that beautiful Moon– Jupiter conjunction pour into the heart tonight.

Sunday, May 24: It’s another low-efficiency, high sociability day, though a bit more ready to shift, experiment, explore. We continue to be generally friendly, generous, but self-absorbed, as it’s time to return to self and fill the wells. Don’t expect others to guess what we need or leave their patterns for ours, and do try to honor the needs of others and take turns with needs met. Or the stubborn streak can cause a problem.

Monday, May 25: Make a difference as the Moon enters industrious and nervy Virgo and lengthens our to-do list. Venus squares Uranus makes us itch for change, just do not try to change one another. If our situation has been either unusually uncomfortable or especially lovely lately, it may be tempting to make sudden leap sideways or to rail against one another and list everything others have done wrong. But it will be a lot more productive to deal with the issue directly in front of us and wait a few weeks, until Mercury is direct to make long term decisions. Better to put our existential discontent to good use. Move furniture and flowerbeds, talk about healthy changes in relationship, work on desired cultural changes. Declare a self-improvement program. Sketch the tattoo, but wait to make it happen.

Tuesday, May 26: Stay calm through some early morning scrambling as the Moon squares Mercury and Pluto. Follow the details today; this is not a big-picture day, but one built on one small change after another. If we think too far ahead, our details fall through the cracks and we get overwhelmed. People may be cranky as they try to catch up, but the work landscape is shifting sands, always changing, and so a sense of accomplishment may be hard to find. That does not mean we are not getting anywhere- all these details are necessary. Fix, repair, confirm. Reorganize.

Wednesday, May 27: We may be pressed for decisions today, but let’s not be pushed into an unripe or unnecessary one. Watch for a sudden, irrational act. Bravely explore possibilities as Mercury conjuncts Mars, but keep the decisions short term, what we’ll do this week, not this year. We may need to do surgery, to cut out something unnecessary, or to bark, to firmly set a limit- but don’t need to bite or get mean. Say no more than necessary, we think we’re saying it like it is—but with Mercury retrograde there is a good chance we only have part of the picture and will have to eat our words later.   Judicious honesty in the morning can lead to a healing, understanding, and righting of an old wrong or imbalance later as Venus trines Chiron and the Moon enters egalitarian Libra.

Thursday, May 28: We can find our equilibrium again today, though may have to send out a search party. Make peace. Balance the composition, as the Libra Moon trines the Sun, Mercury and Mars. This helps us balance opposing needs and find healthy compromise, and maybe admit we might really love one another.
