Spring begins with tender shoots and tough lightning bolts on March 20, at 5:28 am MDT. The Sun enters brash, forthright Aries, though we felt it coming earlier this year as Venus, Mars and Mercury preceded the Sun in to Aries and gave us a taste of the season to come. Tulips peek through last year’s leaves and loan us their bravery, tornadoes and march winds remind us that spring is as tumultuous as it is tender.
But this Friday we still feel the tired tag end of winter as the Sun in Pisces squares serious Saturn and calls us to task. Life’s responsibilities can chafe at us, papers and bills come due, chores demand attention. Insecurities can tap dance on our control issues and stimulate us to rebel, push ourselves, or to sulk, depending on our response. Instead of bucking authority it is good for us to claim our own.
But the weekend opens up once we get our ducks in a row. An outgoing up-beat, and outspoken Sagittarius Moon shifts the mood and Mercury conjuncts Venus in Aries. We love to share our ideas and can bond over saying outrageous things, which can be perfect for St Patrick’s parades or to bring the snakes back. Let a desire for fresh news, fresh territory, and a clean garden inspire action. Just notice that people may, in their enthusiasm, not be particularly careful of each other’s tender feelings.
We begin the new week with a charge; the Sun enters proactive Aries on Monday as the Moon enters determined Capricorn, and the spring revolution kicks in, however we want to define it. Politics, both national and interpersonal, moves onto the front burner this week. The courage to begin again, no matter how tough the winder, is the medicine of spring, so the stars ask us where do we need to start over? We have access to the determination and ability to make a good start. Let’s ramp up and get as far as we can before Mercury retrogrades ion April 9th and sends us back to review.
The week ends under a more extroverted and sociable, if still political, Aquarius Moon. Mercury squares Pluto and inspires debates and tussles for power as we become aware of what is at risk, what we might lose. Rhetoric intensifies, and so do our thoughts: we can see things in black and white instead of a more honest shading. If a person feels cornered, they can become truly active and storm the bastille, or get depressed if it’s a smaller, more personal corner. But we can pour this intensity into anything we do. Any sign of progress will improve the mood.
Friday, March 17: prickly and emotional, people feel under pressure as responsibilities become due and can get grim. Let’s support one another’s work and stay out of the way when someone’s on a roll. An effort to crack down or impose disciple is a response to stress, but won’t be effective. Whereas organization furthers, and joy is checking things of the list. This evening people can relax and laugh about it all, but may get wild as the Moon enters Sagittarius.
Sun square Saturn 3:47 PM, Moon trine son 3:56 PM, Moon enters Sagittarius 8:59 PM.
Saturday, March 18: Mercury conjuncts Venus today and we can be glib, flirtatious; notice a whiff of spring fever in the air. But also we can go deeper and become impassioned and charismatic. What we won’t feel like is patient. Run into old friends, but don’t get caught up in old patterns, pick up an old oar projects and see it with fresh eyes, and talk about social justice, what is fair and beautiful, and what we are willing to do for this.
Mercury conjunct Venus 6:26 AM, Moon trine Venus 2:58 PM, Moon trine Mercury 5:05 PM, Moon square Neptune 9:56 PM.
Sunday, March 19: Today continues yesterday’s momentum, with a chance to expand our network this afternoon as the Moon sextiles Jupiter. Give people undemanding space through an irritated or over extended patch around dinner time, and look for positive changes this evening.
Moon sextile Jupiter 2:35 PM, Moon trine Uranus 7:32 PM.
Monday, March 20: Now we’re cooking. The Sun enters pro-active Aries on this the vernal equinox, the first day of spring and the Moon enters competent, controlling Capricorn, we have efficiency to follow through what we begin, if we can get the energetic elements together, otherwise we can rebel against ourselves, or try to control the uncontrollable, and loose our momentum in tension.
Sun enters Aries 4:28 AM, Moon conjunct’s Saturn 4:37 AM, Moon enters Capricorn 9:30 AM, Moon square Sun 9:58 AM.
Tuesday, March 21: Follow through what was just begun. Run through the momentum from yesterday and make it so this morning as the Moon trines Mars. Keep dogs and children busy, give cynics a job, as we can get in trouble if bored or unengaged.
Moon square Venus 12:32 AM, Moon trine Mars 1:42 AM, Moon sextile Neptune 10:16 AM, Moon square Mercury 4:19 PM, Moon conjunct Pluto 11:32 PM.
Wednesday, March 22: Look for some interesting karmic interactions may not make sense in the short term, but tweak our soul’s work as the Sun and Mercury aspects the Moon’s Nodes. Pay attention to political statements made this week and deeply consider the long-term ramifications. Tonight, the mood grows more cooperative if as stubborn; we may be able to perceive more options as the Moon enters Aquarius.
Moon square Jupiter 1:44 AM, Moon square Uranus 7:19 AM, Moon enters Aquarius 8:28 PM.
Thursday, March 23: Concerns crowd the horizon, but are we catastrophizing, or is there really something to worry about as Mercury squares Pluto. In this urgency, we may try to convince or manipulate others, but that will tend to backfire; look for the content under the fog, the fire underneath the smoke, and prioritize. Fixate constructively.

Use this week to prepare for the vibrant spring ahead. Let’s clean our flowerbeds and rake the yard, rake our emotional issues and political secrets out of the corners and send them to the compost. Clear the ground, study, restock, complete work of the mind, body, and soul.
If we’re honest with ourselves, we probably know what we need to do this coming season, if not exactly how or where. The recent Uranus-Mars aspects and eclipse series did its best to shake us loose, wake us up, and let us know what we need to deal with the next.
Though this will probably be a busy week, we may feel that end of winter, Sun in Pisces, low energy, so let’s pace ourselves. Energizing Mars has just moved into steady Taurus which gives us more physical endurance than enthusiasm. Even though Venus retrograde in Aries keeps our hearts volatile we still need time to replenish in the dream world and let our psyches integrate all that’s been going on.
The Moon enters industrious Virgo for the weekend and reminds us to get our work done. Mental Mercury squares serious Saturn this weekend and lets our mind perseverate and worry a pattern which is compounded by a full Moon in introspective, edgy Virgo. Turn this mental activity towards learning, studying, solving a problem, or reading a complicated book to keep it from degenerating into anxiety. Use those mental muscles in a good way so they don’t just spin in circles.
When Mercury enters brash Aries on Monday a we’ll jump to conclusion more easily and grow more verbally impetuous, tweet first and think later. While this trait can be fun at the beginning of the week under a sociable generous Moon in Libra, on Wednesday the Moon enters more irascible, less charitable Scorpio and opposes Mars, and that lack of impulse control can sharpen spears. We can choose to be incisive, not mean.
Which takes us back to our gardening metaphor for advice on this last full week before spring begins. We need to stir the compost, clear the ground, and prepare, but we don’t need to blow up the garden. It is also important to see what is already growing in our life’s garden, from the seeds and bulbs already planted. Don’t just worry about the crops or fuss at unexpected vines strangling your tree, get on with the work at hand. Weed those problems and fertilize the healthy growth to be busy and nourished in this complicated year ahead.
Friday, March 10: Feel the pull to over-dramatize just to express what we feel this morning; acknowledge conflicting feelings without the soap opera. Midday, look for successful meetings that promote dynamic change as the Moon forms a grand trine with Uranus and Saturn. Our energy begins to flag and our thoughts grow more serious as the Moon enters Virgo around 3 PM, we can get persnickety if we’re feeling overextended or worried, but a great conversation that lets us analyze and process will bring us back alive.
Moon trine Uranus 1:41 AM, Moon trine Saturn 10:05 AM, Moon enters Virgo 3:07 PM, Moon trine Mars 4:21 PM.
Saturday, March 11: The mood winds up and can leave us feeling overwhelmed by all the details as our minds try to encompass too many different threads, or while imagine worse case scenarios while the Virgo Moon opposes Neptune. And if we go there, we can take it out on one another as a way of dispersing anxiety. Or we can choose to drop beneath this mental static and open our empathy and compassion for one another, learn a new concept or take on one project at a time and feel like we’re getting somewhere. It’s up to us which side of this Virgo nerviness we exercise.
Moon opposed Neptune 1:07 PM.
Sunday, March 12: Our minds and guts can bunch up in a knot unless we give them something worthy to chew upon as Mercury squares Saturn under the Full Moon in Virgo. But if we do, the internal wheels can grind efficiently, and we begin to put pieces together to grow our understanding. Transportation delays can add to a low-level frustration, so keep the schedule loose, and keep one another informed. We take communication seriously, as a culture we may be holding the press accountable and investigating all forms of information exchange. We have access to strategic thinking but can get cranky if we’re overtired. Late evening smooths out as the Moon enters Libra.
Moon trine Pluto 1:56 AM, Mercury square Saturn 6:09 AM, Moon opposed son 8:53 AM, Moon square Saturn 6:24 PM, Moon opposed Mercury 8:36 PM, Moon enters Libra 11:28 PM.
Monday, March 13: It can be a relief to get back to work this morning after a complicated weekend People need a little tender loving care and reassurance; do not tap dance on their insecurities. Our minds speed up and the filters may come off our conversation as Mercury enters Aries and injects cosmic caffeine later in the day. If we feel a longing, let’s ask what do they symbolize life and how much we want that within us in our hearts. Rather than become demanding tonight, let’s ask what our longing symbolize.
Mercury enters Aries 3:07 PM, Moon opposes Venus 8:41 PM
Tuesday, March 14: Relationships come to the forefront, some event can trigger our realization of who’s precious and who’s full of it, which allows us to sort and process. Though we may feel someone that we need someone more than we actually do. Look for an opportunity to open up this afternoon as the Moon conjunct Jupiter, watch this conjunction rise as the Sun sets and let it soothe the heart.
Moon square Pluto 11:51 AM, Moon conjunct Jupiter 3:51 PM, Moon opposed Uranus 7:04 PM.
Wednesday, March 15: It will stabilize us to focus on logistics this pragmatically efficient but emotionally stormy day as the Moon enters serious Scorpio this morning and opposes volatile Mars this afternoon. That outspoken Mercury in Aries can grow claws, and anything we say can come out sharper than we intend. Our impulse control is down, our verbal filter is thin, but we can concentrate or obsess. Investigate, write invective, write political commentary, advocate for what’s needed, but consider avoiding crowded intersections and emotionally demanding situations. Walk away from unnecessary confrontations.
Moon sextile Saturn 4:05 AM, Moon enters Scorpio 9:10 AM, Moon opposed Mars 5:37 PM.
Thursday, March 16: Let’s pace ourselves and restore physical reserves that have been recently burnt up. Our energy can swirl inwards even though our mind is racing ahead. If people are guarded, prickly, don’t take it personally. We need our shields while our intuition is so strong: listen in subtle ways to the body, to beloveds. Listen to sudden hunches about work, and follow up with fact-finding.

The great question of this astrological decade, the question the planets ask us over and over again, concern what is the right use of power, whether personal power, political power or how we derive and use electrical power. What changes do need to make to avoid the misuse of power, and instead use it in a new, dynamic, safe, and enlivening way. This question intensifies over the next few weeks as confronting Mars in Aries first squares Pluto this week, then conjuncts Uranus next week while those two planets oppose expansive Jupiter. We can expect ground-shifts of all types. Let’s break this down.
Pluto brings whatever it touches to the edge of life and death so we can reorganize our relationship to it. From 2008 through 2024 it traverses Capricorn, sign of structure, political power, authority, discipline, and traditions. The last time Pluto was at this point in Capricorn was 1772, one year before the Boston tea party, four years before the American Revolution.
Pluto was energized during the American Revolution by a supportive trine from electrifying Uranus in Taurus, and it was still a messy time. Change-master Uranus entered rebellious Aries in 2010 and kicked off the Arab Spring. In America, our change proceeded without the revolutionary violence, through the courts and changing political systems and was not bottled up into conflict same conflict. Now that our political system has produced a more Pluto in Capricorn figurehead, we can feel that explosive Uranus in Aries discontent simmer here at home.
This week a fast-moving, energizing Mars in Aries adds extra punch to that discontent when it squares Pluto, and extra heat when it conjuncts electrifying Uranus and opposes Jupiter next week. On the world stage, expect simmering pots to come to a rolling boil.
So, under duress and in a potentially willful week, the planets ask us to look at how we use our personal power, our political and financial power, how we use our fossil fuels, because they are all connected. We need to look in our simple daily interactions and our spiritual life as well as our politics, and ask are we using all of these for the best of all sentient beings. What transformation can we catalyze to improve our situation, across the board.
On Friday, this underlying discontent is highlighted by a brooding, mood-sharpening Scorpio Moon. Through the rest of the weekend a more upbeat, frank Sagittarius Moon gets us out and about; physically activity will help us deal with an increased emotional sensitivity as the Sun slide into Pisces. It will help restore our resilience to take a break from our normal concerns and the world’s woes to stretch our minds or explore new territory.
Midweek our industriousness returns in time for important strategic meetings under a pragmatic Capricorn moon, and as mental Mercury trines expansive Jupiter. Some people will say too much, and the very nature of freedom is a topic of debate.
Feel the centrifugal force of willpower as Mars squares Pluto on Wednesday, and use it wisely. We can use this power to accomplish good things, but let’s refuse to be manipulated, and choose not to manipulate. It could be the perfect time to push a project forward, to make a leap forward, or just go work out, but there will plenty of fuel for confrontations, and even explosions, so proceed thoughtfully. Avoid accidents created by emotional distraction, let life be a dance.
The week ends on more compassionate note as Venus sextiles Saturn and calms us down. It furthers to reach into the past, to old friends or traditions and remember our resources.
Friday, February 17: We may not be feeling sociable, a Scorpio Moon calls us into our inner rooms and asks us to do some work. Cynicism can give vent to discontent but it furthers to concentrate on to have something to concentrate upon and pour our discontent into constructive action. People can be there for us in an emergency, just don’t expect peace and light and warmth fuzziness. Research and investigation furthers midday as the Moon sextiles Pluto, we may be distracted and moody, but a chance to concentrate can do us wonders. Tonight, we may need to talk, but let’s go deep or not bother.
Moon square Mercury 7:18 AM, Moon sextile Pluto 12:37 PM.
Saturday, February 18: The Sun enters Pisces, beginning what is normally a month where we review the past, rest, dream, and prepare for spring, where we take care of feelings as tender as the first snowdrop flowers. But this year those tender feelings sprout in a world that’s edgier, less interested in vulnerability, more action-oriented. Today’s Sagittarius Moon suggests that if we get out in the wild or take a break from routine, we can renew our resilience. After a more private, potentially resentful, morning, the Moon enter Sagittarius Moon and encourages us to be outspoken, but we can choose to do so in a kindly way. Let the day be diverse: rather than feel conflicted about what to do or who to do it with, time share.
Sun enters Pisces 4:13 AM., Moon enters Sagittarius 11:52 AM, Moon squares Sun 12:33 PM.
Sunday, February 19: Continue that break, study something new, explore boldly connect with the wild and do anything else that feeds the soul and lets restlessness find a good outlet. Let companions find their own source to renewal, as it can be different for each person, and we won’t take orders well. If we’re cooped up together we may start finding fault with one another when there is no problem, and in the name of honesty say mean things. Make sure that the restlessness goes where it belongs and doesn’t spill over unnecessarily upon one another.
Moon trine Venus 8:20 AM, Moon square Neptune 10:43 AM, Moon trine Mars 10:13 PM.
Monday, February 20: It’s hard to buckle down to work earlier today, we may be looking for ingenuity and a fresh approach, and can find a great new idea as Mercury sextiles Uranus. Anxious twitches or a sharpening temper are a sign of restlessness, a need to get out and approach the problem from another angle. Avoid wrote work and familiar chores, use that ingenuity to tackle all sorts of odd life glitches. We can do this. It will help to get on the same page with teammates over this coming week while Mercury resides in more collaborative Aquarius, as the next few weeks rock and roll, and a basic plan will help.
Moon sextile Jupiter 9:49 AM, Moon opposed Saturn 4:36 PM, Mercury sextile Uranus 9:01 PM.
Tuesday, February 21: We move into a strategic, potentially difficult few days as Mars approaches a square to powerful Pluto, then conjuncts erratic Uranus next week. We will have unusual determination when we know what we want, and unusual frustration if we feel blocked. We’re irritable if we can’t get what we want, and angry if we feel manipulated. It’s important to redirect out of reaction and into progression and use this energy for our own goals and our collective vision.
Moon sextile Mercury 6:31 AM, Moon trine Uranus 7:38 AM, Moon enters Capricorn 12:07 AM, Moon sextile Sun 6:15 AM, Mercury trine Jupiter 11:27 AM.
Wednesday, February 22: This could be a truly difficult day; a Mars squares Pluto and can energize us but inflame an urge for confrontation and dominance. We need to be strategic. We know what we are against, but it may be hard to remember what we’re for. But we can use this irritable confronting nature to tackle difficult problems, though it takes personal discipline and willpower. Just avoid unnecessarily conflicts. Midday can be particularly volatile as the Capricorn Moon conjuncts Pluto and squares Mars and Uranus. Reconnect tonight, we need to remember who’s in our corner.
Mars squares Pluto 2:02 AM, Moon conjunct Pluto 12:34 PM, Moon square Mars 1:12 PM, Moon squares Uranus 6:44 PM, Moon squares Jupiter 8:23 PM.
Thursday, February 23: Although change vibrates in the air, a compassionate note seeps in as friendly Venus sextiles stabilizing Saturn under a collaborative Aquarius Moon. Reach to the past, to old friends, daily spiritual or traditions. Go back to the last form that worked, and update from there. Check in with one another and prove friendship can be trusted. We are each other’s outriggers on life’s choppy seas.
Moon enters Aquarius 10:17 AM, Venus sextiles Saturn 2:44 PM.

We’re fired up and ready to go, but may not agree on where we’re going. Venus and Mars conjunct in Aries, visible in the early evening sky, keep our passionate engagement simmering. Our soul’s histamines inflamed quickly, leaving us with an impatient allergy to anything we consider wrong or offensive. We can pour our heart into work as long as we can keep our focus, but with a relatively short attentions span, that can be a challenge. Our Facebook page, a new flame, or yet another news bulletin can send us off to chase those rabbits instead of observing what’s really going on, or turning this passionate engagement into considered and durable action.
We can also love as fiercely, and new relationships can spark over common interest or a passing moment. This heat is just in time for a spicy, if not necessarily romantic, Valentine’s week. Consider keeping Valentine dates to an active or spontaneous experience; we may just be too wound up to spend an evening staring at one another in candlelight.
Friday brings a high-profile full moon-penumbral eclipse in dramatic Leo. Full moons highlights tension it occurs. Leo’s best motto is “I am the center of the universe, and so are you”, the inspiration to be a cultural hearth-fire, teacher, lover, leader, and performer. Leo’s lowest note is the “I am the center of the universe and you are not” narcissism. The eclipse spotlights public self- aggrandizement, but also asks us to check ourselves, and ponder where our own healthy need for self-expression and self-care veer into feathering our nest in a way that conflicts with the healthy needs of others. Let’s ponder how we further our personal narrative while we take care of those around us, both personally and as a country. Where can we shine in a way that also helps all sentient beings.
As if a Full Leo Moon eclipse couldn’t bring enough drama, we also get a comet blazing by us on Friday. The Comet will be visible in the early morning houses with a pair of binoculars, Thursday through Sunday, but most visible on Saturday morning, in the east near the constellation Hercules. It will still be 20x farther out that the Moon, but close enough to influence us. Now comets are not only beautiful to watch, they are also synchronous with a year of unusual events that trigger potential historic changes, unusual storms, changes in regimes, and a stirred-up population. We see a symbolic introduction of matter, matter from another part of the solar system once frozen and now ignited, and this provokes change.
Friday may also be the most romantic night of the week, though potentially difficult on the world stage. as Mercury sextiles Venus makes it can feel really good to put our beloved in the center of our attention and treasure them. Under this full Moon in Leo we can engage the healing power of the arts, particularly performing arts, and celebrate any of the expression of our heart.
The Moon heads into Virgo over the weekend and sharpens our critique, it also lets us know where we’re feeling edgy and how our recent experiences have affected our digestive system and our ability nurture ourselves. It reminds us to take care of ourselves when the world feel stressful.
Early next week the Moon enters Libra and asks us what is fair and balanced; but it may not be our mood. We can use funny spontaneous moments to unwind and connect with those who care that our life is bright and equitable as that Libra Moon opposes Venus and Mars in Aries.
Make this an inclusive Valentine’s day; spread warm feelings all around in true egalitarian Aquarian fashion. Remember that St. Valentine wrote of divine love, not romantic love.
Our mood grows barbs on Thursday as the Moon enters focused, stubborn Scorpio and Mercury sextiles Mars. Our concentration is stronger when we’re on track, and our vitriol increases when we’re ticked off. Stay on target. Let’s not let people distract us from our purpose and our goals.
Friday, February 10: Look for a paradoxical day of personal romance and political melodrama. We can sweettalk one another as Mercury sextiles Venus, want to share the beauty of our words and inspiration. but are easily inflamed by an apparent tension between the personal needs and the needs of the group. We all want to shine but narcissism will infuriate us under the full Moon eclipse at 5:32 PM. Evening brings more chance to be personally generous and collaborative as the Moon sextiles Jupiter and trine’s Saturn.
Mercury sextile Venus, Moon trine Uranus 3:35 PM, Moon opposed sun/lunar eclipse 5:32 PM, Moon sextile Jupiter 6:39 PM, Moon trine Saturn 10:52 PM.
Saturday, February 11: It furthers to get our life in order, we’ll feel better if we clear our desk are closet, clear out our inbox or smudge our aura. Critical voice is strong, we need to speak our critique, go very gently with one another in the process. Anxiety about global issues can come out on an interpersonal level and that doesn’t help. It furthers to do something that expands our horizons today as the Sun trines Jupiter.
Moon enters Virgo 6:51 AM, Sun trine Jupiter 8:45 AM.
Sunday, February 12: Our thinking may be fuzzy, our concerns can work into our dreams as the Moon opposes Neptune, but they’re not prophecy. Let an afternoon heartache wash through as the Moon trines Pluto. Support health tonight.
Moon opposed Neptune 2:41 AM, Moon trine Pluto 4:02 PM.
Monday, February 13: We want to feel the world is fair will and balance this morning as the Moon enters Libra and the Sun sextiles Saturn, we’ll notice where it’s not, and are willing to work hard in that direction. Take an opportunity to step away from reactivity and into constructive action. Reassess personal responsibilities. It furthers to support one another and feel an energetic exchange, to be there for one another.
Moon square Saturn 5:36 AM, Moon enters Libra 1:42 PM, Sun sextile Saturn 10:57 PM.
Tuesday, February 14: Take advantage of new avenues and opportunities; communication can flow fairly easily this morning as the Libra Moon trines Mercury, so outreach, collaborate, and meet. Our critique can sharpen around dinner time as the Moon opposes Mars, let’s see if we can direct this at the world and not at our beloveds. Drop expectations and appreciate connection.
Moon opposed Venus 3:50 AM, Moon trine Mercury 11:09 AM, Moon opposed Mars 2:41 PM.
Wednesday, February 15: Clear up minor personal irritations or misunderstandings that sprang up in moments of unguarded Impatience, clear the air and soothes prickly edges as the Moon conjuncts Jupiter this morning and se tile Saturn. Do it now before the Moon enters Scorpio tonight when a sullen edginess will deepen unhealed rifts. Follow up on business leads and get information where it needs to go.
Moon square Pluto 12:57 AM, Moon opposed Uranus 7 AM, Moon conjunct Jupiter 9:53 AM, Moon sextile Saturn 3:30 PM, Moon trine son 6:53 PM, Moon enters Scorpio 11:40 PM.
Thursday, February 16: Get to the point and don’t keep people waiting. This is a potentially tactless but highly strategic day as Mercury sextiles Mars under a Scorpio Moon. Watch dueling defenses make headlines. Don’t expose tender underbellies to impatient people, make sure the other is in a place to receive before exposing a heart. This sharp, suspicious energy is good for research, and for setting personal boundaries.
Mercury sextile Mars, 11 of 14 a.m., Moon trine Neptune 10:01 PM.
